The Pulse: Unseen Work, Unexpected Storms, & Sweet Sunday Resets
This week ended up being a bit on the lighter side with client hours—largely due to a wave of seasonal illnesses and schedule shifts floating around. While it was unexpected, I used that open window to lean into my future programming, meet with a business-savvy mentor to pick her brain on pricing and service design, and spend time behind the scenes re-architecting the website.
When you have that high-achieving, Type-A drive, it’s hard when your hard work isn't immediately visible. Building out an interactive client dashboard, redesigning post layouts, and setting up recipe databases take hours of effort in 15-minute pockets—yet there’s no tangible "proof in the pudding" until it launches. Writing this down is my way of acknowledging that unseen progress and keeping myself accountable!
Sweet Mornings & Family Milestones
The highlight of my week came courtesy of N. He remembered how much I wanted to sleep in, so he went downstairs early, turned on the stove where I'd set everything out the night before, and made my coffee. Around 7:30 AM, he walked into my room with a fresh, hot cup of coffee in hand, set it on my nightstand, and sat down to chat with me. It was so thoughtful and sweet that he not only remembered, but took the initiative to manage the timing all on his own. And not only that Saturday, but double featured it for Sunday as well :)
A few other family wins from the week:
Sparking Joy for N: We had a Cub Scout meeting this week and found a path that really sparked some joy for him. Since competitive team sports aren't his thing, finding an activity where he feels engaged and excited is a big win.
Brace Adaptations for L: We got some new adaptations squared away for L’s braces during our midweek half-day of school.
Being a Good Neighbor: After a crazy local storm hit, L noticed our neighbor—who is older and losing his eyesight—working in his yard. L went right over without being asked to help him pick up sticks and clear away debris. Seeing him step up like that was a parenting win.
What’s on the Menu This Week
We're balancing high-protein prepped lunches for me with easy, kid-approved dinners for our busy nights!
My High-Protein Preps:
Coconut Beef Bowls
Street Corn & Sweet Potato Bowls
Coffee Treat: Fresh batch of homemade "Moon Juice" creamer paired with homemade copycat Costco s'mores clusters (made with leftover homemade caramel!).
Dinners for the Boys & Family:
Monday: Dumpling meatballs with ramen.
Tuesday: Orange chicken nuggets with stir-fried veggies.
Wednesday: Slow-roasted pork roast with mashed potatoes. (Leftovers will be made into thinly sliced pork sandwiches on toasted bread with mayo!).
Thursday (Family Game Night at the Y): Pre-game family pizza pick-up on our way to baseball pictures and games.
Friday: Our traditional at-home Pizza & Movie Night!
Saturday: Classic grilled cheese with tomato soup.
School Lunches & Snacks:
The Classics: PB&J or peanut butter and honey.
Fridge-Clear Produce: Sliced cucumbers, bell peppers, fresh apples, and clementines.
Extras: Hot meal leftovers packed in thermoses as needed to clear out the fridge before the weekend.
The Microburst Storm & The Unplanned Yard Clean-up
Friday night’s baseball practice was canceled due to an insanely localized storm system. I was standing on our front porch being a typical Midwesterner watching the wind whip through when a sudden microburst took my breath away. Hail, thunder, lightning, and crazy gusts hit—splitting the tree across the street twice. What’s wild is when L came home on the bus, he said it hadn't even rained a mile away!
The upside? It freed up our Friday evening! We cuddled up for our pizza movie night and watched Remarkably Bright Creatures. Even L admitted he loved it! While we watched, I gave the dog her haircut—she went from a fluffy mess to a skinny mini little rat dog and finally got her bath on Sunday as well.
Saturday's plan didn't originally include yard work, but clearing a massive pile of fallen branches and debris from the microburst became the afternoon's work for the boys to earn an evening of rock climbing. We chopped up the wood for firepit kindling and weeded the beds before heading out for the rest of our day:
Flu Shot Hacks: Stopped at Walgreens for our annual flu shots. We stacked their health insurance coverage promo with a $15 cash-back deal on a $5+ spend and a 10% coupon—earning a little money on the backend while grabbing gummy treats and ollipops for the boys!
Rock Climbing: Spent a few hours burning off energy at The Climbing Center. We had the whole place to ourselves! It was silly and playful, though my forearms and fingertips are definitely feeling it today.
Pelanchos Dinner: Wrapped up the day with a trip to our favorite spot. Birria tacos (quesabirrias) for me, full bellies all around!
Sunday Reset & The Unseen Backend Lift
Sunday was all about spending quality time with family and getting in a good reset. My aunt came in from out of town, so we spent the morning playing a few rounds at Topgolf and her and my parents' first time at Whataburger.
The rest of the evening was spent for getting prepped for the week ahead. It’s going to be a heavier single-parenting week with no nights off, client visits at full capacity, and no spin classes on my schedule as I balance kiddos, baseball, and routines with the kiddos.
While I navigate the daily logistics, I'll be quietly chipping away at the site:
Rebuilding the Website Architecture: Reorganizing content into dedicated categories so it's ready to deploy with an updated layout.
Dedicated Recipe Vault: Creating a clean, searchable recipe database that connects seamlessly with social posts.
Interactive Client Dashboard: Building out a tablet-friendly dashboard to track client progress, historical data, and QI run charts in real time during sessions—replacing paper printouts.
Step by step, byte by byte, we’re filling up the buckets without draining the tank. Here’s to a productive, healthy, and organized week ahead!
